What is your favourite exercise? (Discussion)

What do you love to do most at the gym? It can be anything from some sort of cardio to a hold to ab work to power movements.

I have to say my favourite exercise at the gym is deadlifts. Nothing gets you more jacked up than when you lift more than double your body weight. I feel so awesome after I’ve met a lofty goal I’ve set for myself

    makattack98, you are dead on.

It is one of my favourites too.

I however actually like to combine it with some other barbell exercises to create what’s called a complex.

    It would look like this:

    Deadlift,
    Romanian Deadlift,
    Bent over Row,
    Power Clean,
    Front Squat,
    Push Press,
    Back Squat,
    Good Mornings,

Choose a weight you can handle for your weakest exercise and perform 6-8 reps of each movement before moving on to the next (with out a rest). Fantastic!!

If i can work out how to post videos on here I’ll add my deadlift video from my program www.weighttrainingtechnique.com or you can go there and view it for free.

Alex, your workout sounds amazing man. I think I might have to steal it for my back days. Can’t wait to check out that video if you can post it.

The Pilates mat routine (the original, not the “reinvented” versions by various people trying to cash in) is still, to me, the most time-effective way to stretch, train the core muscles, and develop overall definition. It’s especially good if you have joint or lower back pain, because the advancement is gradual and yet quite visible. Joseph Pilates knew his stuff (he beat asthma, rickets, and rheumatic fever and got fit by age 14), and got to pose in his underwear to show off his muscular body until he was well into his 80s. :-)

Gloria, I totally agree with you. Pilates is a great workout. This might not classify in the same discussion here, but I love dance classes as a work out, because they’re just fun. Yet, I find it gets you active using different muscles, as well as trains your brain to remember the steps! I would like to get back into Yoga. Every time I try it, it’s great but then at the end, while lying down, I just end up falling asleep! Which is good and relaxing, but I can’t say it does too much for keeping up the working-out part of the deal!
